M-161 Solid Gold Goto Shishi Botan Menuki

Usually we send good pieces for shinsa and custom boxes BEFORE we put them up for sale on the site. However, since it is Christmas season and for a while until we go back to Japan next year, this set of very nice solid gold shishi botan menuki will be offered for sale at a reduced price until we go to Japan early next year.

Most likely a maker from the Goto School, we will study them during the time they are offered on the site and will post any ideas that we have on maker and age. This set is large and very heavy.  The carving is very well done and in good detail as well as in very good condition.

Right now our guess is late 1500’s , early 1600’s
